On the street – 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS.

Over here at Shinyside.net we’ve decided to start an entirely new section, a section that will be dedicated (and I mean DEDICATED) to the cars that you find on the street. New, old, random, rare, ridiculous. Nothing gets by our line of vision and nothing is faster than our camera phones (we hope). Up first on our list?

A pristine 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS (sorta) = Hell’s yes.

On a recent drive, I came across this stunner on the side of the road in Lannon, Wisconsin. The weather was bizarre at best as it was simultaneously raining and sunny. This trick of the clouds made for some neat tricks of the light on the robust golden rust paint scheme. The Chevelle has always been my favorite American tire burner muscle car. I had to pull over.

Now I’m not going to sugar coat this next part. Our powerful beast in the golden wrapper is, in fact, a cloned SS. But who cares?! It’s got a freshly built 468 big block V8 with less than 200 miles on it.

Whomever tore down and built up this classic American icon sure did a good job of replicating the SS-nostalgia with legitimate side markings on the front fenders, matching center piece covers on the wheels, and topping it off with a set of SS 396 badges on both bumpers. Inside the beast is a four-speed manual gearbox, black leather bench seats, and a lonely aftermarket tachometer w/shift light right at the driver’s eyesight level. The undercarriage was spotless. Hungry for it? Head on up to Lannon, Wisco and be ready to fork over a cool $16,000.

We’ll see you on the street.
